"WHAT IS IT?" is a visual monthly challenge that is intended to test one's knowledge of Greensboro College's history, educate one about the history of the college and be a challenging, but fun and entertaining, diversion. Each image will be related, in some way, shape or form, to the history of Greensboro College. The monthly challenge is open to anyone. The first person to correctly answer each month will receive a 5"x7" photo print of that month's visual challenge.

Three prizes were given out for this month's challenge because the first three correct answers were received almost at the same time. Mark Albert '03 and Katie Ward '03 were the first two to respond correctly. Christy Ann Lewis '02 was third person to respond correctly.

Pictured above is what was known as "Gobbel's Lake." During his tenure as the college's president, Dr. Gobbel had a dam built across one of the small branches on campus, thereby creating a fairly small and shallow "lake" on back campus in the general vicinity of the current Student Center and Hanes Gymnasium.
