"WHAT IS IT?" is a visual monthly challenge that is intended to test one's knowledge of Greensboro College's history, educate one about the history of the college and be a challenging, but fun and entertaining, diversion. Each image will be related, in some way, shape or form, to the history of Greensboro College. The monthly challenge is open to anyone. The first person to correctly answer each month will receive a 5"x7" photo print of that month's visual challenge.

No one was able to give exactly the right answer to this month's challenge. Several people answered that it was part of a graduation ceremony. To be more precise, however, it is a specific part of a graduation ceremony - a special ritual which had its own name.

Pictured above is a graduation day daisy chain, circa 1930s. As a part of of the commencement ceremony, a group of young ladies not in the graduating class would be chosen to carry the daisy chain. Being chosen to participate in carrying the daisy chain was a privilege extended to those young ladies who demonstrated exceptional leadership, class spirit, and involvement.
