"What Is It?" - October 2007

  1. No one was able to give exactly the right answer to this month's challenge. Several people answered that it was part of a graduation ceremony. To be more precise, however, it is a specific part of a graduation ceremony - a special ritual which had its own name.

    ANSWER:
    Pictured above is a graduation day daisy chain, circa 1930s. As a part of of the commencement ceremony, a group of young ladies not in the graduating class would be chosen to carry the daisy chain. Being chosen to participate in carrying the daisy chain was a privilege extended to those young ladies who demonstrated exceptional leadership, class spirit, and involvement.
